Houston Community College Chancellor Cesar Maldonado, Ph.D., P.E., has been selected to receive the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction.
Dr. Maldonado is set to receive the during the society’s annual convention in April in Columbus, Ohio, to be attended by leading educators from across the community college spectrum.
The honor award is the society’ most prestigious for community college presidents, recognizing those who have promoted excellence in academic achievement, leadership, and service among high-achieving students at their colleges. Recipients are nominated by students on their campuses and are only eligible to receive the award once over the course of their career.
“I am deeply honored to receive this recognition,” Dr. Maldonado said. “It is a testament to the devotion and hard work of the great team around me at HCC and reflects the many accomplishments we have made and are making to fulfill our important mission.”
The award is named after the late Dr. Shirley B. Gordon, Phi Theta Kappa’s longest-serving Board of Directors chair and a founder and longtime president of Highline Community College in Washington State.
Phi Theta Kappa is the premier honor society recognizing the academic achievement of students at associate degree-granting colleges. It is made up of more than 3.5 million members and some 1,300 chapters in 11 nations, with approximately 240,000 active members at colleges across the nation.
