Ibid. is written and produced by the members of the TWU Eta Nu Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society.
“For fifteen years, Ibid. has shaped the development of historical scholars through collaborative relationships between students and faculty,” said history lecturer Aubri E. Thurmond, who is the Ibid faculty advisor. “The outstanding essays in our current volume demonstrate the strength of that tradition.”
This year’s edition consists of eight essays covering topic areas of Southern history, in times of war, the 18th Century, and the American West.
“The student papers featured in our 15th volume ask important questions about race relations in the American South and West, as well as examine historical interpretations of various global conflicts,” Thurmond said. “For that reason, I believe readers will find them relevant for our present moment.”
Two essays earned the 2022 Valentine Belfiglio Prize: “Loving v. Virginia and its Local Impacts in Texas” by Stefanie Hustoft and “Historiography of Women in the Mexican Revolution” by Paola Alonso.

- “Historians’ Perspectives on the Abolitionists’ Role in Sparking the Civil War,” by Stefanie Hustoft
- “A Review of Elizabeth S. Reis’ Damned Women: Sinners and Witches in Puritan New England,” by Aimee Noe
- “Cultural Genocide in the 21st Century,” by Cole Bates
- “A Review of Warren’s Buffalo Bill’s America, William Cody and the Wild West Show,” by Angelique Sohn
All of the authors are students at TWU. Hustoft, Alonso, Bates, Vermeer, and Sohn are history master’s candidates, while Noe is a history undergraduate. This is the second edition for Sohn, the third for Alonso and the fourth for Vermeer.
