After Texas officials lifted stay-at-home regulations, shops and restaurants are beginning to reopen and Mesquite officials are hoping residents will keep their money in town.

According to The Dallas Morning News, the city is spearheading the Shop Mesquite campaign in an effort to encourage residents to buy products from local businesses while economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic advances.

City Manager Cliff Keheley said the city's goal is to prop up local businesses.

“We have an enormous responsibility to our local businesses to do all we can to get them going again," Keheley said. "The more successful they can be, the more profitable they will become. A ‘vibrant economy’ is one the City Council’s top strategic goals and our Shop Mesquite campaign will help energize our local businesses.”

The Shop Mesquite campaign motto is “Shop Local. Dine Local. Buy Local.” Keheley says city officials created the program as an ongoing commitment to all the local businesses that residents know and love. The aim is to make all local businesses successful.

“We have helped businesses remain sustainable, now it’s time to help them become successful,” Keheley said.
