Dallas ISD News Briefing: Jan. 11

DALLAS — At 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, the marching bands of Townview, Sunset, SOC, Carter, and Wilmer Hutchins high schools will represent Dallas ISD in the 2023 Roland Parish Battle of the Bands at Globe Life Field in Arlington. This event brings together 10 of the top high school bands in Texas and Louisiana to showcase their musical talent.  

Before the show, students will have the opportunity to learn about collegiate opportunities and career paths at over 50 participating colleges and universities.

Board of Trustees 2023 election filing period opens soon 

The filing period for a place on the upcoming Dallas ISD Board of Trustee regular election ballot starts Wednesday, Jan. 18. Voters will choose representatives for districts 2, 6 and 8 Saturday, May 6.

Students to sharpen invention skills during third intersession week 

Next week, 41 select schools will have a fun theme for their third intersession week of the school year: Invention Lab. Students will receive personalized attention in smaller groups and engage in hands-on learning opportunities focused primarily on math and science.

District holiday 

On Monday, Jan. 16, Dallas ISD will be closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
