Office of Community Police Oversight hosts community events to honor victims of police violence

DALLAS -  The Office of Community Police Oversight, in partnership with area nonprofits and other City of Dallas departments, is hosting three events to facilitate healing, community and conversation in the wake of the death of Tyre Nichols and other victims of police violence.

The first, on Thursday, Feb. 16 is called “A Night of Community Healing,” and will be led by the Office of Equity and Inclusion, Council Member Casey Thomas, II, Community Police Oversight Board and the Dallas Chapter of the National Black Police Association. It will start at 6 p.m. and takes place at the Thurgood Marshall Recreation Center, 5150 Mark Trail Way, Dallas, TX 75232.The second, “Candlelight Vigil for Peace, Unity, Healing and Accountability,” will be held on Sunday, Feb. 19 and feature representatives from Community Police Oversight Board, Project Unity,  Dallas Chapter of the National Black Police Association and Thanks-Giving Foundation. It starts at 6 p.m. at City Hall Plaza, 1500 Marilla St., Dallas, TX 75201.

The third and final event, entitled “Conversations to Move Dallas Forward,” will take place on Thursday, March 2. It will be led by the Office of Equity and Inclusion, District 3 Councilmember Casey Thomas, II, Community Police Oversight Board and the National Black Police Association. It takes place at the Thurgood Marshall Recreation Center, 5150 Mark Trail Way, Dallas, TX, 75232. The event starts at 6 p.m.
