Victoria College will celebrate Texas Girls in STEM Day by hosting a panel discussion of women in the STEM field on Wednesday, March 1 at 6 p.m. in VC’s Health Sciences Center Room 130.Hear from women from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) & the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI):

  • Supervisory Special Agent Dana Shutt is currently the supervisor over the Charleston, SC Office and has extensive experience in forensic science.
  • Special Agent Bianca Beckman is located in Georgia and has been a Forensic Consultant for NCIS for many years.
  • Intelligence Specialist Angela Blanco has been a part of the NCIS intelligence team for several years and brings extensive experience and knowledge when it comes to naval intelligence.
  • Special Agent Deanna Stevens has been a special agent with the FBI for 23 years and has gained invaluable experience and knowledge in her field.
  • Staff Operations Specialist Danielle Haynes will share her experiences and explain the other roles and positions available at the FBI.

The panel will start at 6 p.m. and conclude with a question & answer session, the opportunity to mingle with the panelists, and refreshments to enjoy at 7 p.m.

Each March 1, Texas recognizes Texas Girls in STEM Day. The day marks a chance to celebrate and encourage the participation of girls in this state in fields related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics — and is the result of House Bill 3435, passed by Representative Rhetta Bowers during the 86th Regular Session.

Of the 1,591 students at Vanguard High School in Mesquite, 1,240 (78%) weren’t on the academic track to qualify for college in the 2023-24 school year, according to SE Dallas News’ analysis of test scores from the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
