Jan. 31, 2023 — DENTON — The Texas Woman’s University College of Professional Education (COPE) joins 105 institutions to deliver soft skills training in virtual reality through the Immersive Soft Skills Education Grant from Bodyswaps and Meta Immersive Learning.

The program widens access to immersive learning technologies in education and supports students gaining necessary soft skills to compete and stand out in a global job market.

Colleges and universities worldwide received the grant that includes three months of unlimited access to the full Bodyswaps soft skills learning library while Meta will provide a Meta Quest 2 VR headset.

COPE Associate Dean Maria Peterson-Ahmad, PhD, led the college’s efforts in pursuit of the grant.

“Having the ability to use Bodyswaps allows faculty and students to harness the learning leverage of immersive technology to practice soft skills that enhance effective communication and respect for individual differences,” Peterson-Ahmad said. “Virtual reality offers users a safe space to practice these skills and allow for feedback from faculty in ways that skills can be refined prior to entering a real-life scenario. This means our students will be better prepared entering their new career on day one.”

A variety of courses will be available to TWU, including modules on diversity and inclusion, public speaking and employability training, to empower students with soft skill development that might have been hindered as a result of the pandemic, according to Bodyswaps.
