Alcohol Awareness Week is quickly approaching, and Dallas College will host several events April 3-6. Alcoholic beverages are popular among all ages. It is one of the most used drugs. According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), millions of people ages 12 and older have reported consuming alcohol at some point in their lifetime.

For some, alcohol is viewed as a social beverage, while for others, it is something that helps to make them social. This social beverage is classified as a drug and causes damage for people from all walks of life.

Take the time to learn about the risks and consequences of drinking and substance abuse so you can make better-informed decisions. Educating yourself on the facts will reduce the likelihood of negative outcomes such as health problems, injuries or accidents.

The week’s main event will be Would You Risk It For A Shot? at Cedar Valley Campus, Thursday, April 6, at 10:30 a.m. Participants will have an opportunity to hear from three young adults who failed to heed the warnings and be aware of the risks of alcohol use. Their life-changing stories will offer help and understanding to support others in making smart choices.
